Compression Machine Capacity Calculation


There are two types of multi-station press machine:

 1. Single Feed System: This type of machine has-

 -One hopper

 -One discharge chute 


This type of compression machine compresses one tablet by an individual punch in a complete round. If a single hopper compression machine having 33 punches compresses 33 tablets in a round.


2. Double Feed System: This type of machine has-

 -Two hopper

 -Two discharge chute


This type of compression machine, two tablets are compressed by each punch in the complete round. If a double hopper compression machine having 33 punches, 66 tablets are compressed in a complete round.


To calculate the capacity of the compression machine following parameters are required, 

 • Number of punches 

 • Revolution per minute (rpm) 

 • Number of feed system 

 

Number Of Punches: Some general types of compression machine on basis of the number of punches are 

 • 17 Punch Compression machine 

 • 19 Punch Compression machine 

 • 23 Punch Compression machine 

 • 33 Punch Compression machine 

 • 37 Punch Compression machine 


Revolution per minute (rpm)

  • Revolutions per minute is the speed of the compression machine in one minute. 
  • Revolution per minute is the measure of rounds completed by a turret of a compression machine in one minute. 
  • Fast running machine’s rpm is calculated by the Teko meter. 

 

Number of feed system 

  • Single hopper machines are single feeding machines. 
  • Double hopper machines are double feeding system machines. 


The following formula is used to calculate the compression machine capacity.

Per Minute 

Machine Capacity = Number of punches × rpm × Number of feed system


Per Hour 

Machine Capacity = Number of Punches×rpm×Number of feed system×60 


Suppose we have a compression machine having 35 punches and running at 30 rpm. The machine has a double feed system and capacity is calculated by putting values in the formula as follows, 

Number of punches × rpm × Number of feed system

 

35×30×2=2100 Tablets/min

 

It means 2100 tablets are compressed in one minute.


For one hour multiply it by 60 and answer is as follow

 

2100 × 60 = 126000 tablets/hr 


It means 126000 tablets are compressed in one hour.

But in the Multi-Tip Punch System we follow the same formula and multiply to the Number of Tips per Punch)

Look the Formula -

Machine Capacity = Number of Punches × rpm × Number of feed system × Number of Tips per Punch × 60 

 

e.g.,

Let's say we have a machine with: 

 • 33 Stations (Punches) 

 • 6 Tips per Punch (Multi-tip) 

 • 80 rpm 

 • Single Feed System (1 Tablet per cycle) 

 

Tablet Output = 

33 x 80 x 1 x 6 x 60 = 950400 

 

How to calculate the capacity of Tablet Press Machine that produces Bi-layer Tablet?

This machine has 2 Feed system but 1 Discharge chute. So each punch produce 1 Tablet per cycle.

Therefore, it is treated as a Single Feed System Machine.
